My dad said he heard about Liang’s Kitchen from his friends. This restaurant claims that they serve Taiwanese “veteran’s village” style food. The veterans came to Taiwan after they fought the civil war in China, and reside in their own villages. I don’t really know what veteran’s village style cuisine is like. But I am assuming it’s mainland Chinese food mix with Taiwanese style food?

Most of the dishes are noodle. They also serve some rice dishes.

雪菜百頁 Vegetable with Tofu Skin ($4.25)
We started the meal with some cold dishes. Vegetable with Tofu Skin was pretty good. It was light and perfect for a hot summer night.

滷豬腳 Braised Pork Hock ($5.00)
Braised Pork Hock was my least favorite dish of the night. I thought the pork hock was too hard and dry. There were too much bone and barely any meat. And there was no flavor. But that was just me. My parents like the pork hock for some reason. I guess we have very different taste.

紅油炒手 Spicy Wonton ($4.75)
Spicy Wonton was my favorite dish. The wonton was small and light. The spicy sauce was so good. We got maybe 15 wontons in this order I think. I definitely will order this again.

眷村旦旦麵 Dan Dan Noodle ($5.00)
Dan Dan Noodle at Liang’s Kitchen wasn’t the spicy Szechuan kind. It was made with sesame sauce. I like the flavor, but the sauce was too watery. Watery sauce didn’t not stick to the noodle well, so the noodle was pretty tasteless. If they just made the sauce a little thicker, I would like this noodle much better.

紅燒筋肉麵 Stewed Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup ($6.75)
Stewed Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup was the one dish that my dad’s friend highly recommended. The soup was very flavorful. Beef and tendon were super tender. This was one bowl of good stewed beef noodle soup. But I couldn’t help comparing it to my favorite beef noodle soup at Beef Noodle King. I still think Beef Noodle King has the best beef noodle soup. But Liang’s Kitchen probably has the 2nd best. My dad thought this was the best beef noodle soup he’s had in years.

Ever since this visit, my parents has gone back a few more times. Dad said most of the time food was good. But sometimes everything just tasted horrible, like they have a different chef on those off night or something because food tasted completely different. One item my dad didn’t like was the cold noodle. He said it costs $4.25 but there’s only noodle and sauce with nothing in it. I would go back to Liang’s Kitchen again for their spicy wonton and beef noodle soup. But maybe they need to be more consistent with the quality of their food.
