公園先生想吃辣中國菜，我們一起到大湘園吃特價午餐，才發現Memorial Day是假日沒有特價午餐，不過還是吃了辣得過癮的飽飽午餐。

Dr. Park went surfing on Memorial Day morning. On the way back, he called and asked if I wanted to have lunch with him. He had been craving for some spicy Chinese food. We decided to go to Hunan Seafood for their lunch special. Later we found out they didn’t offer lunch special because it was a holiday though

小炒黑山羊肉 Toss-Fried Mutton with Cilantro ($9.98)

We ordered two dishes. The first one was Toss-Fried Mutton with Cilantro. This was one of my favorite dish since Crown Cafe days (Hunan Seafood used to be Crown Cafe long long time ago). But it tasted different from the flavor that I remember. It was good, just different. This dish was VERY spicy even though it didn’t look that spicy. Mutton (or lamb) was sauteed with cilantro and spicy peppers. Mutton was chewy and full of flavor. The heat of the pepper made us sweat like crazy. It also made us finish a bowl of rice.

水煮兩樣魚牛 Boiled Beef and Fish w/ Hot Sauce (US$10.98)

We had to order Dr. Park’s favorite dish: Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce. We ordered this dish at every spicy Chinese restaurant. I like Hunan Seafood’s version. It wasn’t as spicy as Chung King’s so I could eat more. It was also a bit more garlicky. Another thing was the portion was a lot smaller than the last time we were here, almost 1/3 less. I guess all restaurants either increase their prices or decrease their portions. But Dr. Park and I still enjoyed the dish, with lots of ice water of course.

Food was pretty good here. Portion was smaller, but still a lot for two people. The price for rice had gone up to $1.20 per person. Good Dr. Park ate 3 bowls. Our spicy Chinese lunch was quite tasty.

Dear Eileen,

Wow, I thought most non-fancy Chinese restaurants in LA county don’t charge etra for the whie rice……But at least the dishes are good so made it less painful to pay extra for the white rice……

Have you been to Mon Land Hot Pot City in San Garbriel? I heard their lab hot pot is really good & spicy, Dr. Park should like that……

Also, you should try the new Taco Bell frutistafreeze drinks, they have strawberry & mango strawberry flavors, I like the mango strawberry one, it is more tart….These ne drinks are yummy & cheap ($2.04 per cup after tax…..

Yeah, a lot of restaurants charge extra for rice now.
Never been to Mon Land Hot Pot.
It’s like this “Little Sheep” kind of herb hot pot right?
Both Dr. Park and I like the regular Taiwanese style spicy hot pot better.
But I’ve heard Mon Land is good. Maybe we’ll try it in the future.
Strawberry and mango sounds good. Thanks for the info.

I had lunch here yesterday and it was pretty good. It is located in Mar’s Plaza around the Atlantic/Garvey area. We got 3 dishes a few of the frequent clients always orders (always good to take other’s recommendations) I think it was 生菌抄肉片 ﹐ 白黃瓜皮抄臘肉 ﹐ 還有辣生蒸魚。都很好吃。我覺得中辣就很夠味了。你有時間應該來 try it.

I wanted to try this restaurant a long time ago (2, 3 years ago I think?).
Went to the restaurant and saw a big red C on the door so we left.
Maybe they’ve improved the rating? I’ll keep this restaurant on my to-try list.
