I passed by San Dong Won and saw the big banner “Special All Day xxxxx (Korean writing) $4.99″. Had no idea what the special was, but $4.99 for dinner sounds good to me. On Sunday night, I walked a few blocks from work to here to get the special for dinner.

Chan Chiang Mein ($5.99)
San Dong Won is a Korean style Chinese restaurant. The place was small, but it was almost full on Sunday night. The all-day special turned out to be Chan Chiang Mein. It was supposed to be $4.99. But they told me there would be an extra $1 charge for to-go order containers. What? Extra for the container? Next time I’ll bring my own container then. Actually, the extra charge was such a turn off. I’m not sure I’ll ever come back again.

Kimchi
One small kimchi came with the noodle. This was mroe like a Chinese style kimchi. The cabbage was really crispy, and the spice just tasted different than your normal Korean kimchi.

The noodle was a bit overcooked. It was too soft for my taste.

But the sauce wasn’t too bad. It had pork and onion, lots and lots of onion. I would like it more if it had more veggies, but the brown sauce tasted good enough alone.
San Dong Won’s Chan Chiang Mein wasn’t too bad. If it’s just $4.99, I’d come back again. But with the extra $1 container fee, I just don’t think that’s right and this was probably the last time I’ll visit this place.

That is so messed up that they charged you an extra 1$. But, the food looks really good. Love reading your blog everyday !

I would be really annoyed at the $1 charge, too.

the extra $1 charge happened to me too at another korean-chinese restaurant (and of course, they don’t advertise that). I was totally annoyed too. they said something about the charge of the styrofoam (wth). so lame. I apologize for my peeps and their shady hidden fees. haha
i love the cabbage kimchi at korean-chinese restaurants too! i love the crunchy and slightly sweet cabbage!

Usually the basic 炸醬面 has ground pork or actual small pork pieces plus onion. To get the more “expensive” version, try the 乾炸醬面 or 三鮮炸醬面. These are the more “deluxe” versions with more ingredients… Some places don’t have these on the menu, but can usually make it for you.
