We wanted something fast and not too far away from home for dinner. So I took out my coupon book and tried to find a place. I found a 20% off coupon from Pho Factory. The name “Pho Factory” didn’t really sound too appealing, but we decided to give it a try.

Cha Gio – Egg rolls (4)
They had a large outside patio seating area, but it was too dark and cold to sit outside. They also have a to-go counter for drinks and sandwiches. We were seated in the back room. There was absolutely no service at all. The waiter just came to take our order, and brought us food. If we needed anything else, we had to go up to the front counter to get it ourselves. We started the meal with some Cha Gio, or Vietnamese Egg Rolls. The egg rolls here were skinny and long. It was just alright. Nothing too special about it. 4 Egg Rolls were about $5.

Pho Tai (Rare Steak)
Dr. P ordered a bowl of Rare Steak Pho. It was about $7. The broth was good, so was the the tender rare beef. But there was something off about the rice noodle. The texture tasted funny. It was mushy, like it was overcooked, or soaked too long in water or something.

They gave us the usual bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, and lime to add to pho, but they didn’t have any jalapeno.

Bun Heo Nuong (Vermicelli w/ charbroiled pork)
I ordered Bun Heo Nuong, which is Vermicelli with charbroiled pork. It had all the right fixing. The sauce was good. But the pork was so fatty. I do like fat, but not that much fat. There were a lot of pieces that were just pure fat. The fat pieces actually tasted kinda gross.

I like the vegetables in the noodle so much better. Can I order vegetarian vermicelli next time?
With the 20% off coupon, our bill was about $20 including tips. Vietnamese food in Irvine is expensive, and doesn’t taste as good as the ones in San Gabriel Valley. Maybe next time we should try Westminster for pho? Does anyone have recommendation for Westminster restaurants?

its hard to find good service in VNmese restaurants unfortunately..but good thing you’re in OC as there’s plenty of other good options. Try Vien Dong on brookhurst when you’re in the mood for vnmese other then pho.
