[El Monte] [Argentinian] Tito’s Market

Tito’s Market
9814 Garvey Ave
El Monte, CA 91735

I found Tito’s Market from Yelp.  It’s a small Argentinian market that is more famous for its sandwiches and empanadas.  Dr. P and I actually came here once before, but it was after their closing time at 6pm.  This time I came in the afternoon to get some sandwiches to-go.  There is a big dining area inside the market.  Even though it was 3pm, the place was still busy.  I waited for about 10 minutes for the 3 sandwiches I ordered.

Milanesa Sandwich ($3.75)

Milanesa Sandwich is THE #1 sandwich!  It’s #1 on the menu and #1 of what people are ordering.

A thin slice of breaded beef, perfectly seasoned, so tender, and so good.  I really like it!  Sister thought it was good.  But mom didn’t.  She said there was no vegetables and the meat was too thin.

Beef Sandwich ($3.75)

This was the #2 sandwich on the menu, but I forgot the name. It was written in Argentinian (or Spanish?) so I didn’t know what it was.  I asked the lady behind the counter and she said it was “roast beef sandwich”.

It wasn’t exactly roast beef.  It was thin slices of steak with melted cheese.  It also had the tomato bread crumb and grilled onion added.  It was pretty good.  Meat was really tender.

New York Steak Sandwich ($3.75)

Also got a New York Steak Sandwich.  I got it because it was one of the few items that I could understand from the menu.

It turned out to be mom’s favorite sandwich because it had lots of veggies.  This sandwich tasted more “traditional” than the other two.

Empanade ($1.19)

Of course I got their famous empanades.  2 beef and 2 chicken.

Chicken Empanades ($1.19)

The empanade was huge.  I actually didn’t get to try the chicken one.  I was too full and when I wanted to try it the next day, it was already gone.  Mom said she thought the chicken filling was too salty so she had to eat it with rice.

Beef Empanades ($1.19)

I had the Beef Empanades.  It was a bit salty, with lots of strong seasoning flavor.  It was a bit heavy and not my favorite type of food.  It’s not that the empanade wasn’t good.  Maybe I’m just not used to the taste?

I like the Milanesa sandwich a lot.  The rest of the stuffs was just ok good for me.  I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to Tito’s.  But if I was driving by and feeling hungry, I probably will stop by to get the Milanesa sandwich again.

Came here when I first moved back to LA… cuz I read about it from afar. So, SO disappointed. After I walked out, I saw the banh mi stores across on Garvey and thought to myself: never again.

Honestly, I also think banh mi is better!
