Have you seen TV Channel Magazine in Chinese shopping plaza in LA and Las Vegas area? This is a free monthly magazine. You can find it outside Chinese supermarkets, bookstores, and restaurants. Cheesecake Factory Do you guys have credit cards that accumulate points that you can exchange for things? Whenever I get enough points, what do I get? Restaurant gift cards of course. I got a $50 Cheesecake Factory GC because my mom loves Cheesecake Factory. So one night when dad went out with his friends for dinner, mom said with a big smile, “I don’t need to cook tonight. Let’s go to Cheesecake Factory!”
We always love the bread at Cheesecake Factory. Pinkberry Mom was saying she felt like having ice cream after our lunch at Shrimp House. I mentioned Pinkberry, and mom said she heard about Pinkberry from her friends. Her friend told her the “famous” yogurt ice cream is really good. So I offered to take my mom to Pinkberry to try.
We went to the Monrovia location. This place is huge! I think it’s the biggest Pinkberry I’ve been to. Today is my last working day at my current job. I am going to be laid off at the end of the day. Well, we actually found out the news 1.5 months ago. That was pretty nice of them to let us know early so we can start looking for the next job. So what is my . . . → Read More: Last Day of Work * This is a venting post. * Generally, I believe the goodness of people. Even people I don’t like, I still won’t think them as evil. But today at work, I found evil. There was an incident between co-worker Tracy and I a few weeks ago. She made some mistakes on a customer’s call and the customer called back angrily. I got the angry phone call and didn’t really know what happened. I put the customer on hold while asking Tracy what had she done. She pretty much did everything wrong, even spelled the customer’s name wrong. So I told her right there that she made a mistake. Instead of just admitting her mistakes, she went to our team lead and said that I embarassed her in front of other co-workers. When our team lead told me about her complaint, I really didn’t think I did anything wrong. I had to ask her about the previous call in the office because the customer was waiting on the phone. If she didn’t make mistakes, why would she be embarassed? But this was nothing personal, it was just about work. I tried to be more considerate in her position. I guess for some people “face” is very important. To avoid tension in the office, I tried to be a bigger person and wrote her an apology note for “embarassing her in front of other people” according to her. She then told me that everything’s cool between us and asked me not to tell he manager about the incident. But I still told our manager the incident because I just think she should know about it. I’m really glad I did that. So issue was solved. She stoped talking to me but that was fine. I thought things were ok…. so I thought. Until today…. WARNING: This is a long complaining post. I just need to vent! I wrote about my co-worker John Park and complaining about how selfish and inconsiderate he is. But this time he pushed me over the limit. I was so angry at him that we had a yelling match at work. John Park is a 50 something old divorced Korean guy. Everybody at work already knows that he is selfish and obnoxious. We had a few confrontations before. But this time was the worst of them all. As I mentioned in the last post, we had a potluck party at work for our manager. Everybody was supposed to bring a dish. We had a sign up sheet for people to write down the dishes they were going to bring so we wouldn’t have people brining the same dish. On the same sheet, we also asked people to write down if they were willing to contribute $10 to get a wedding gift. Our manager, Lorelyn, is getting married. It will be a very small and simple wedding. Since there is no reception for the wedding, we decide to have a small potluck party at work to celebrate the special occasion for her. Everybody brought delicious food (except that selfish old Korean guy, John. I have to write another post just for him).
I made pinwheel wraps. Whole wheat tortilla, feta & spinach cheese spread, turkey, ham, and 2 different kinds of cheese. This appetizer dish was very easy to make. Great snack for kids, too. This dish was gone in 5 minutes. Coworker Iris made delicious sandwiches and brought them to work for us. The French bread was from a Vietnamese sandwich soup. She mixed Chinese dry meat flakes with wasabi mayo from Trader Joe’s, and topped it with marinated carrot sticks, cucumber sticks and cilantro. Simple and delicious summer sandwich. I really like it. Will try to make the . . . → Read More: Iris’ Sandwich Last night my friend Iris was watching DVD. All of a sudden she yelled out, “Eileen! I saw you on TV!!” She paused the scene to show me. And it was me! haha….
It was Boston Legal, Season 2, Episode 4. I played one of the jurors in court. I think I worked on this episode maybe 3 years ago? I appeared on camera maybe 10 times throughout the episode. They even caught me falling asleep. haha…. I’ve been talking about how much I love Korean Jajangmyeon (noodle in borwn sauce) at work. Co-worker Iris came from Beijing. Zhajian Mian (fried sauce noodle) is a classic Beijing dish. Iris kept on telling us for weeks how Beijing Zhajian Mian is better than Korean Jajangmyeon.
On a Sunday, Iris brought homemade Zhajiang Mian to work. Yes, unfortunately we have to work on Sunday. But if I can eat this every Sunday at work, I would volunteer to work on Sunday. |
