My mom absolutely loves the prime rib from Black Angus. We went to Black Angus on Tuesday for lunch, and found the door locked. What? They don’t serve lunch anymore? We went there for lunch before and really enjoyed their lunch special menu. Could it be bad economy = bad business = no more lunch hour? Oh well. So we started driving toward Arcadia. Dad mentioned he felt like having some noodle. We passed by Dumpling House and decided it would our randomly picked lunch spot.

I remember this place used to be a Yuen Nan noodle place before. But that was a long long time ago. The restuarant had pretty good business for lunch. Restaurant was 90% full and a few people came in to get to-go.

Restaurant was small, but very clean. Only one waiter was working the entire restaurant. The food came out slow, but the waiter was fast at doing everything else. Mom liked the unique art pieces on the wall.

三鮮餃子 Chive, Egg, Pork & Shrimp Dumplings (12) ($5.95)
We got the Chive, Egg, Pork & Shrimp Dumplings. 12 dumplings in one order. In Chinese it is called “3 items dumplings”. At other restaurants, the 3 items usually mean pork, shrimp, and sea cucumber. But here it was actually 4 items, no sea cucumber but chive and egg.

The dumpling skin was light. As for the filling, I only tasted the strong flavor of chive. This did not taste like the “3 itmes dumplings” that I like. Parents liked it, but I thought it was just alright.

韭菜盒子 Chive Pan Cake (3) ($4.99)
One order of Chive Pan Cake came with 3 of them. It was fried, but not oily at all.

There were chive, egg, and tiny shrimp inside. This was pretty good. But I think it would be even better if there was glass noodle in it.

紅燒牛肉麵 Flavors Stewed Beef Noodle Soup ($5.59)
We got the Stewed Beef Noodle Soup that dad wanted. Portion was pretty big. But I didn’t like the noodle soup at all.

First, they used thick udon noodle, which I thought was strange. Then the undon noodle was undercooked so it was hard and not chewy like how udon noodle should be. Also the broth tasted a bit watery. The only good thing was the beef. It was very very soft and tender. But I wouldn’t order this noodle soup again.

Lunch for 3 for $20. We were full, and the price was reasonable. But food really was just alright here. I didn’t feel quite satisfied, so we moved on to lunch part 2…. (Post tomorrow. ^^)

Woah, a 2 part lunch. You’re a true blogger Eileen. You gotta love the crawls! I really want to try this place since it’s so close to my house, but now….I don’t know.
牛肉麵用烏龍麵。。。。超怪的! 我比較愛家常麵或者是刀肖麵. Mmmmmmmmm
Have you tried Bamboodles (http://www.bamboodlesrestaurant.com/) before Eileen? Their noodle and dumpling skin are the best ones I’ve ever eaten (both in HK and LA)
I also find this place just okay. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either.
And I agree – those are weird noodles in the 牛肉麵. Plus, the 韭菜盒 totally needs the glass noodles. o.O
Black angus has shut down its business..My boss told me that she read it from the news
eileen, i’ve always wondered about this place. So would you pick Luscious Dumpling & Dumpling 10053 over this?
很喜欢看你的blog,是我的饮食地图哟,今天第一次留言:)
I don’t think it’s really a “udon” noodle, the Japanese one. I actually like it, I like my pasta “al dente.” More like a think, northern Chinese noodle. The owner sounds like he’s from Beijing.
