My sister bought a birthday cake for my mom from J.J. Bakery. It was my mom’s favorite, taro cake.
芋頭蛋糕 Taro Cake
The cake didn’t look too fancy. But the taste is more important than how it looks.
The cake had a layer of pudding and a layer of taro inside. I thought the cake was a little disappointing. The cake was the dry and crumby kind. The texture felt “rough”. We all thought Cathy’s Bakery (香夫人) has a much better taro cake.
But that’s ok. Mom said she doesn’t care too much about the cake. She was happy that we were all there for her birthday. ^^

They changed the cake formula? Uh oh. This is also my favorite birthday cake. Had it so many times already…housewarming, birthday, or just when I want it
. I like the taro paste a lot in this cake. Now I need to try out Cathy Bakery’s version 
. I like their puff pastry with sponge cake but have not tried any of their taro items before.

I really like JJ, but I too find the taste has changed. We got a cake for my daughter’s birthday, it seemed drier than usual.

Happy birthday to your mom!(belated)…I like Taro cake, too. I will get it when I visit LA next year. Yummy!
